Question by BawwsStatus: Does pooping a lot make you lose weight and if it does will PGX make you go more??
I’m not talkin about takin laxatives. i’m talkin about taking a lotta fiber using PGX powder, which makes you poop a lot and thus losing weight? I’m not looking to lose weight or anything, i’m just lookin to lose my spare tire, my flabby belly!
I’m 5’6.5 and my weight bounces from 115-125 pounds. but this belly WON’T GO AWAY! anyways, so yeah, if you eat a lot of fibre, or mix PGX fiber into your food, which makes you poop, do you lose anything? and no, i’m not gonna abuse fibre or anything, i’m just wondering LOL because everytime i start dieting, i get diarrhea.
LOLOL, a lotta good answeres here, but to the last post, i’m not depending on “pooping” to lose my spare tire, i was just curious.

Uhh well yes. Fiber is good for you so more bowel movements means less in you.

Eating lots of fiber will definitely help you lose weight- but don’t forget that fiber still contains calories. Fiber is a type of carbohydrate. Sugar is also a carb. Try eating more fiber carbs where you would normally eat sugar carbs. Eating more fiber should help curb the diarrhea, but too much fiber can also be a cause of diarrhea… so just monitor that. Keeping a food diary can help you stay in the know about what foods agree with you, but don’t obsess over it.
As far as your height and weight, you are actually at the lower end of the healthy weight range for your height… if you tend to have fat that deposits primarily in the abdominal region, this can sometimes be a concern. “Apple-shaped” people have a higher risk for coronary artery disease, diabetes and heart problems. Measure the circumference of your waist. Then measure the circumference of your hips. Divide the first number by the second number (waist/hips). If this number is greater than 0.8, then you have an apple-shape, and should be aware of that. Talk to your doctor if you are concerned, but generally healthy diet and exercise keeps you out of trouble.
Whether apple-shaped or not, I believe I have the answer to your “spare tire” problem. You are within the healthy weight range for your height, which probably means you work out or are at least active. You should do 30 minutes of cardio at least three times a week, but my guess is that you already do that and maybe more. BUT I bet you are not doing strength training! Women often shy away from weights because we fear we may “bulk up.” But unless you are taking hormones such as testosterone, bulking up won’t be a problem. Women’s bodies are designed to be long and lean- it would require extreme effort and a strict supplemental regime to achieve a body-builder type shape on a woman.
So my suggestion is to start strength training 2 or 3 times a week (and everywhere on your body- not just your midsection!) Your new muscles will burn extra calories, and any flab will melt right off. You will start to feel the results within the first week.
I am excited for you! You are already at a healthy weight for your height, but these tips will add to your overall health. Just be careful not to overdo it! Not eating enough or working out too much can both backfire and have the opposite effects- I have noticed this in many people. Eating disorders end up ruining your metabolism, but I am not worried about you there. You seem to have a healthy attitude about fat loss and a good sense of humor.
